WoW Shaman Guide

This WoW Shaman guide will give you some insight into the Shaman class. Shaman (shammies as they are called) is a fun class to play. They are the totem buff masters. Shaman drop totems to help them quest, buff party members during raids, and help protect against PVP attack. Totems are the shaman buffs that make them fun classes. The class is focused on the elements of earth, fire, water, and air. The shaman spells are nature spells. Resistances against the elements can help defend against a shaman’s attack.

Shaman have the option to be a dps or restoration class. If you decide to raid, most groups or guilds will ask for you to be a healer since most servers are in need of healers. A restoration shaman also brings the mana tide totem for other healers and casters. Restoration also have large heal potential, and they have an instant heal if chosen from the restoration tree.

DPS Shaman have the choice of being a dps caster or melee fighter. An enhancement shaman is mostly melee and the character can use the weapons similar to what a dps warrior likes to use. The only difference is a shaman can only use mail. This type of shaman can benefit greatly from using blacksmithing for the melee weapons that can be crafted.

A Caster Shaman is a little less common. It’s often thought within the Warcraft community that an enhancement shaman does more damage than an elemental (caster) shaman. That may be true, but some players prefer the style of caster over melee character. Elemental shaman can still do a great deal of damage especially with that high crit frost shock spell.

WoW Shaman Guide Professions

Shaman can use all the professions, but some will help you level faster than others. Shaman wear leather until level 40 where they can then wear mail. Leatherworking is an option if a main concern is leveling gear. However, when reaching 40 you will find leveling is much easier with the protection of mail armor. With that said you should probably focus more on making money so really the best combination would be Herbalism and Enchanting. You can also mix alchemy with herbalism or enchanting with alchemy. Potions can help you stay alive and can also be sold to make you a lot of money.

WoW Shaman Guide Totems:

The Shaman class relies a lot on its use of totems. totems are rewarded for finishing specific quests and are assigned by elements. You can have one totem for each element at any one time. Be aware that once a totem is dropped you will not be able to pick it up again.

Fire Totems

Fire totems are offensive.  There is also a totem that provides fire resist for PVP or dungeon bosses where party members need fire resistance.  Fire totems have a single attack or even an area of effect totem.  The amount of damage isn’t much but it helps deal damage and it’s especially useful for restoration shaman who are trying to level.  When you reach level 70, you can even get a fire pet through your fire totem spells.

Earth Totems

Earth totems are mostly used for defense and mob taunts. Earth totems can increase your armor or for your party. When in a dungeon party, buffing the tank with Stoneskin totem can help in defense and makes it easier for the healer to keep up the heals.

Water Totems

Water totems give the shaman the ability to increase or buff healing or restoration effects.  The shaman can remove poison effects in both PVP and dungeons.  One of the favorites in raids is the ability for a restoration shaman to drop mana tide totem which significantly restores mana to party members.  It is most importantly used for healers who are running out of mana due to long fights.

Air Totems

Air totems are a combination of buffs and defense effects that the shaman can cast on himself or his party.  The air totem also includes nature resistance and windfury which rogues and dps tanks love.  After you reach higher levels, you will receive wrath of air totem which will greatly buff casters.
