WoW Mining Guide

Ultimate WoW Guide

If you have just begun playing World of Warcraft, you should be well aware that you need to decide on two main professions. There are several professions to choose from, and for a main character it’s important to choose a profession that best suits the need of the character. Mining is great for characters that wear mail or plate armor. Most blue or purple patterns will give you epic gear for leveling without spending a high amount of gold at the auction house or spending hours in dungeon instances. This WoW Minding Guide will help give you a basic tour of the materials, areas, and trainers to help level your mining profession quickly.

First, you need to train to have the mining skill.

WoW Mining Guide Trainers:

WoW Alliance Trainers:

Gelman Stonehand: (Alliance Trainer - Stormwind)
Kurdram Stonehammer: (Alliance Trainer - Darkshore)
Matt Johnson: (Alliance Trainer - Duskwood)
Brock Stoneseeker: (Alliance Trainer - Thelsamar)
Geofram Bouldertoe: (Alliance Trainer - Ironforge)
Yarr Hammerstone: (Alliance Trainer - Kharanos)
Dank Drizzlecut: (Alliance Trainer - Dun Morogh)
Muaat: (Alliance Trainer - Exodar)

WoW Horde Trainers:

Brom Killian: (Horde Trainer - Undercity)
Makaru: (Horde Trainer - Orgrimmar)
Brek Stonehoof: (Horde Trainer - Thunder Bluff)
Belil: (Horde Trainer - Silvermoon City)

For the expansion packs, you need to visit the cities located in the new areas for Master skill and Grand Master skill. Below is the list of trainers for each expansion pack.

Hurnak Grimmord: (Alliance Trainer - Honor Hold)
Fendrig Redbeard: (Alliance Trainer - Valiance Keep)

Krugosh: (Horde Trainer - Thrallmar)
Jonathan Lewis: (Horde Trainer - Vengeance Landing)

After you have trained at one of the locations above, you will need to buy a mining pick available at any location (usually right next to the mining trainer) that sells profession equipment.    You can also buy an extremely cheap pair of gloves in the auction house and have the +5 mining skill enchanted on them. Along with this WoW Mining Guide, it will make leveling your skill that much easier, and you will miss less without needing to retry.

Below is the list of each vein you will come across and the relevant skills needed.    If you are a high level character and you just need to quickly level your mining, you should bring a large amount of bag space so that you can continue mining throughout the different areas without needing to return to the city to sell and get more bag space.

WoW Mining Guide 1-75 (Alliance)

For skill levels 1 through 75, you will only need to compete against your own faction for ore.  Make sure to turn on mine tracking or you will miss different veins as you quest. The best area to level up to 75 is the Darkshore zone.  If you are a high level with a mount, focus your search in the mountains to the east of the zone.  Up and down the mountains of Darkshore you will find copper, bronze, and occasionally silver.

WoW Mining Guide 1-75 (Horde)

Silverpine Forest outside of Undercity has the most compact area of veins for mining beginners.    It is also quiet, and you will only compete against others in your faction instead of engaging in PVP.

Although these are suggested areas, you will find copper and bronze veins throughout any beginning city.    You can also find plenty of 1 through 75 veins in any area where the level for questing is approximately 1 – 20.

Once you have reached 75 in mining, you will need to go see a trainer again to increase your skill to allow you to get to 150 mining which is the next step.    Subsequently, you will need to train again to 225, again for 300, and again for 375.    Before going through this WoW Mining Guide, make sure to remember to go to your trainer each time you reach the maximum.

Mining 66-125 - Tin and Silver (Alliance and Horde)

The Barrens is a great place to mine for the next level.    Unfortunately for Alliance, this is a Horde zone.    You can get through the zone from running through Ashenvale down the road.    When you come to a fork, go north and you will run into the barrens.    Also, Thousand Needles is a great place to level up mining.    There are plenty of veins in both areas to get you to the next skill level.

Mining 126-175 - Iron and Gold

There are several places to find these two types of veins and level up.  Desolace is a great area since it is usually devoid of other placers.  Another great area is Badlands. All areas of Badlands has caves and mountainous areas for mining.  Arathi Highlands is another area to farm for veins, although you will find much more PVP in the area.

Mining 176-250 - Mithril and Truesilver

Tanaris has great mining potential at this level, although you can run into a lot of PVP. Hinterlands can be profitable as well, and for great mining Searing Gorge is empty except for a few levelers.

Mining 251-300 – Thorium

Un’Goro Crater is extremely popular to level mining at this level.    It is a small area, well condensed, and plenty of nodes to increase skill.    For a less populated area, Eastern and Western Plaguelands are great for increasing mining at this level.

Mining 301-325 - Fel Iron

Hellfire Peninsula is the primary place to find Fel Iron nodes.    You can find them in other Burning Crusade areas too.     Zangarmarsh is a secondary area.

Mining 326-350 – Adamantite

Nagrand is a plethora of profession areas.    Mining is one of these and you can find it a quick place to increase mining skill.

Mining 351-375 Rich Adamantite / Khorium

Khorium is a hard-to-find vein, but rich adamantite is more abundantly found.    You can find these ore veins in Blades Edge Mountains mostly.

Mining 376-400 Cobalt / Rich Cobalt

Howling Fjord is the first place in the WOTLK expansion for increasing mining.    You can increase from higher end nodes from BC prior to moving into a new zone as well.

Mining 401-450 Saronite / Rich Saronite

Sholazar Basin is probably the best places to mine with the new expansion pack. Expect plenty of PVP and competition for veins.  If you have the time, you can also find other veins that are green if PVP gets too intense.

I recommend you take up Blacksmithing as well to make the most out of your Mining profession. To make the most out of this WoW Mining Guide check out the WoW Blacksmithing Guide.
